Today I grow it at Fe's Eden! It’s used in sponges and soaps mostly. However, it can also be used for insulation in pillows and other things. Prior to World War II, it was actually used as filters on ships, kitchen sponges, bath room aid, crochetable fiber!

If you want to get technical, a loofah is a gourd. It grows on a vine and is related to the squash and pumpkin. And it’s even edible! But only to a point. A loofah is only edible before the fibers dry out, which causes the insides to eventually fall out. The rough part of the shell that is left is then used as a sponge.
